Recently it has occurred to me that a lot of people take themselves far too seriously. Case in point, the posters who frequent the http://www.daytondailynews.com/ message board, "Speak Up". Spend about 5 minutes there, if you dare, and you will get my drift. There are only 10-12 regular contributors to that cesspool. They spend an exhaustive amount of time trying to prove much ado about nothing. They are pretty evenly divided into the tightie-righties and the loony-libs. Each working feverishly to body-slam, with words, the other side.
One has to ask if they expend that much energy in their professions. If they were to give that much enthusiasm to a common cause, surely they could devise a plan to ease world hunger, or correct the economy. Such a waste of natural resource.
When one of the posters hits a brick wall in the pursuit of expounding a viewpoint they will resort to name calling and personal attack. One always assumes that this behavior is abandoned in grade school but, alas, that does not seem to be the case. And the relative anonymity seems to make the confrontations all the more vile.
Sadly, these amateur thinkers are under the false impressions that what they feel or say has some greater meaning in the great big scheme of things. If ignorance is bliss, I suppose they shall go on indefinitely, assuming they make some kind of impact on the rest of society. All I can think is that a good laxative is probably in order, as it seems the best therapy for that type of impaction...
