Greta Garbo said it best, "I vant to be alone." In fact it was the line that made her famous. It has become my new slogan.
Never before in this lifetime have I felt the desire to be a hermit like I do now. Is it menopause or finally getting fed-up with the bullshit of relationships? Maybe both. All I know is the allure of living celibate and single has never felt stronger or more right than it does currently.
I eat when I want, sleep when I want, wear what I want, buy what I want, go where I want...well I think you get the picture. The yearning for a partner has all but evaporated.
I confess there were times in my life when that prospect of being alone scared the hell out of me. It doesn't freak me out any more. In fact, the opposite is true. I shudder at the thought of having someone in my life at this point. Putting on make-up and oozing charm just doesn't appeal to me these days. There's a certain freedom in that.
Society seems to expect us to mate for life but in reality it seems ridiculous to maintain that human beings are monogamous. Sure, you can love someone forever I suppose, but that doesn't mean you can't love 3 or 4 other people along the way. And it doesn't necessarily mean you can't have a complete life without a significant other lodged up your behind.
It feels pretty refreshing to have a clear mind and an unbroken heart for a change. I think I should like to bask in that single light for a long while or forever if fate sees fit. I've always said a simple life is a happy life and the older I get the more I see that adage holds fast. People are complicated.
"If you are blessed, you are blessed, whether you are married or single. " Greta said that as well.
Amen, sister, amen.

Nancy Grace Hampering Justice
Don't get me wrong. I think Casey Anthony killed her little girl and left her in the woods to decay. But the inordinate amount of airtime that Nancy Grace has devoted to this case is doing more harm than good in my opinion.
Tonight, NG broadcast the commissary list of Ms. Anthony. Are we so desperate for information that her request for Midol and chocolate bars has become news? Come on Nancy. How can an unbiased jury ever hope to be found? There is a danger here that she may walk and if she does I think it will partly due to the obsessive attention focused on the case by CNN and Ms. Grace.

Little Fish In A Big Sea
Recently it has occurred to me that a lot of people take themselves far too seriously. Case in point, the posters who frequent the http://www.daytondailynews.com/ message board, "Speak Up". Spend about 5 minutes there, if you dare, and you will get my drift. There are only 10-12 regular contributors to that cesspool. They spend an exhaustive amount of time trying to prove much ado about nothing. They are pretty evenly divided into the tightie-righties and the loony-libs. Each working feverishly to body-slam, with words, the other side.
One has to ask if they expend that much energy in their professions. If they were to give that much enthusiasm to a common cause, surely they could devise a plan to ease world hunger, or correct the economy. Such a waste of natural resource.
When one of the posters hits a brick wall in the pursuit of expounding a viewpoint they will resort to name calling and personal attack. One always assumes that this behavior is abandoned in grade school but, alas, that does not seem to be the case. And the relative anonymity seems to make the confrontations all the more vile.
Sadly, these amateur thinkers are under the false impressions that what they feel or say has some greater meaning in the great big scheme of things. If ignorance is bliss, I suppose they shall go on indefinitely, assuming they make some kind of impact on the rest of society. All I can think is that a good laxative is probably in order, as it seems the best therapy for that type of impaction...
